Welcome to “LearningFeeds” @ learningfeed.org

Filed under: Admin — admin @ 2:42 pm

Welcome to LearningFeeds, a multi-blog environment set up to explore various ways of publishing OpenLearn course unit content in a blog-like environment.

As with many other open courseware (OCW) and open educational resource (OER) initiatives, the OpenLearn project from the UK’s Open University has released a wide range of educational materials under an open license in order to encourage third party use and reuse of the materials…

…which means that I (or you) can grab a copy of the materials and do with them what we will - such as republish them here :-)

Although the publishing system I’m using to republish the course units - Wordpress Multiuser - is quite capable of allowing people to add comments to posts, I’ve disabled commenting for the moment.

Instead, the main aim of LearningFeeds is to provide an environment for the drip feed delivery of course unit content via RSS feeds using a specially created Wordpress plugin: just subscribe to a “daily feed” from an OpenLearn unit, and each day you’ll get a single item from that course. Over a period of two to three weeks, you’ll be able to follow the whole course unit just by reading a small chunk a day in your favorite feed reader.

Although there are hundreds of course units on the OpenLearn website, I won’t be publishing them all at once. Instead, I’ll release a few units a week - and announce them here (along with the occasional post about just how the LearningFeeds site was put together…).

So if you make yourself ready, I’ll post links to the first couple of units in the New Year (that is, sometime tomorrow….;-)

But for now, it’s time to see the old year out…
